Creed Bratton
**Creed Bratton** (born William Charles Schneider on February 8, 1943) is an American actor, musician, singer, and songwriter. Known for his offbeat persona, deadpan delivery, and dual career in classic rock and television comedy, he achieved cult fame portraying a fictionalized, eccentric version of himself on the hit NBC mockumentary series *The Office* (2005 to 2013). Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Coarsegold near Yosemite, Bratton showed early musical aptitude, picking up the guitar as a teenager. After studying drama at the College of the Sequoias and Sacramento State College, he traveled extensively across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa as an itinerant musician. In the late 1960s, he co-founded the legendary American folk-rock group The Grass Roots, playing lead guitar and singing vocals. During his tenure, the band generated a string of major Billboard hits, including "Let's Live for Today" and "Midnight Confessions," before he departed in 1969 to pursue solo projects and acting. Following decades as a working character actor and recording artist, Bratton joined the cast of *The Office* during its first season. Initially hired as an extra, he pitched a self-scripted talking-head segment showcasing a bumbling, morally ambiguous, and mysterious older employee who shared his real name. The bit became a hit with showrunner Greg Daniels, turning Creed Bratton into a beloved recurring character who served as Dunder Mifflin's inscrutable quality assurance manager. Along with the ensemble cast, he won two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Outside of *The Office*, Bratton has appeared in independent films and television series, including *Terri* (2011), *The Guilt Trip* (2012), *Grace and Frankie*, and *Into the Dark*. He has maintained an active recording and touring career, releasing numerous solo folk-rock albums such as *Chasin' the Ball* (2001), *While the Young Punks Dance* (2018), and *Slightly Altered* (2020), frequently blending his live musical performances with storytelling and comedy. He remains an enduring, multi-talented fixture in American pop culture.
